Things Clients Apologize For That Hairstylists Don't Even Notice

After seventeen years behind the salon chair, I've learned something.

My clients apologize for...

...well...

Everything.

😂

Before they even sit down, the apologizing begins.

"Don't judge my roots."

"My hair is so dirty."

"I haven't shaved my legs."

"Please ignore my eyebrows."

"My house is a disaster."

"I know I need my color."

"I've gained so much weight."

"I almost canceled because I look terrible."

Meanwhile...

I'm over here wondering where you got your earrings.

Or whether that Stanley cup is a new color.

Or trying to remember where you said y'all were going on vacation.

Truthfully...

Most of the things people apologize for...

Never even crossed my mind.

Do you know what I notice?

When someone walks in smiling because their granddaughter got engaged.

When someone seems quieter than usual.

When somebody finally looks rested after months of exhaustion.

When someone laughs so hard they snort.

I notice people.

Not perfection.

In fact...

If you've been coming to me for years...

Your roots are probably the least interesting thing about you.

The funny thing is...

I think we're all walking around apologizing for things nobody else is paying attention to.

Maybe we could all stop saying "I'm sorry"...

...and just sit down.

💭 Today's Truth:

The people who truly care about you usually notice your joy long before they notice your flaws.
