The Invisible Grocery List
The Invisible Grocery List
Some lists are written on paper. Others live in a woman's head.
It Started With Cat Food
One of my clients told me something this week that made me laugh.
She said there are certain things she never puts on the grocery list.
Cat food.
She just knows to buy cat food.
Why?
Because they have cats.
To her, it doesn't need to be written down.
It's just... known.
Then she sends her husband to the store.
He comes home.
No cat food.
When she asks why, his answer is always the same.
"It wasn't on the list."
He's Not Wrong...
The funny thing is...
He's not wrong.
He bought exactly what was written.
Mission accomplished.
Meanwhile, she's wondering how someone can walk past the pet aisle knowing they have cats and not think, "I should probably check the cat food."
Neither one of them is trying to be difficult.
They're just operating from two completely different lists.
The List We Never Write
I think every woman has an invisible list.
The dog food is getting low.
The kids need shampoo.
We're almost out of coffee.
The towels need washing.
Mom has an appointment Tuesday.
The air filter should probably be changed.
The birthday card needs to go in the mail.
Nobody wrote those things down.
They're just... there.
Running quietly in the background all day long.
It's More Than Groceries
The older I get, the more I realize women aren't just remembering things.
We're constantly scanning.
Noticing.
Planning.
Preparing for what's next.
It's like having a browser with fifty tabs open...
Except you can never close any of them.
Because if you do, something important might get forgotten.
Maybe That's Why We're Tired
People ask why women are always tired.
I don't think it's because we're doing bigger things.
I think it's because we're remembering a thousand little things.
The things nobody sees.
The things nobody asks about.
The things that somehow always get done.
So if you've ever wondered why your wife, your mom, your sister, or your friend seems mentally exhausted...
Ask her about the invisible list.
I have a feeling it's a lot longer than you think.
💭 Today's Truth: Some lists are written on paper. Others live in a woman's head.
